After my previous article about ICOs: ICO Madness: It’s the Dot Com Bubble All Over Again, I wanted to highlight a good ICO and point out factors that make a good ICO.
Too many ICOs are just a group of charlatans trying to make a quick buck. Scams are nothing new, but with it getting harder and harder to produce something that actually needs to be produced; good ICOs are becoming the exception.
That brings me to Worldopoly. Worldopoly is a traditional Initial Coin offering (IPO) in that it’s a long time in the making, nothing “overnight” here, no “pump-n-dump”. According to their timeline, the concept started in 2013 and will release in beta August of 2018!
What IS Worldopoly?
Worldopoly is the world’s first mobile game combining AR (Augmented Reality), AI (Artificial Intelligence), Blockchain, and DAG (Directed Acylic Graph). It’s like combining Pokemon Go and Monopoly into a virtual world built on top of the real world where you create and interact with others in a virtual life. In this augmented, virtual world you can buy a real street in a real city and build on it. You earn money in the game that can be converted to very real crypto or digital currency. Players can interact and collaborate as well as cause havoc. The game functions as a real economy would, with various factors effecting your success or failure, not just your own actions.
Reading their list of advisers and team members shows an experienced, well rounded group.
It’s a little confusing, but there are 3 types of currencies in the Worldopoly game: Worldopoly coins (base coins), WPT (these are crypto coins or digital currency that will trade on normal digital currency exchanges), and building resources. You’ll need some WPT to play, to convert into base coins etc., but it’s easy to start playing and you’ll get a few coins for loading the app and becoming a player. My understanding is that players can exchange currencies between themselves at prices they set, and that digital currency can be purchased with fiat currency directly in the game.
- Players come in 3 flavors: neutral, hostile, and friendly.
- You can buy buildings, streets, and earn coins from player’s interactions with these items; for example from a player walking down your street.
- You can put advertising on your buildings and get paid for it.
- You can purchase items in shops and auctions for base currency.
- As previously stated players can form groups (clans) and work on large projects, or just decide to damage someone’s property.
Games are HOT
In case you’re oblivious, everywhere you go you see people playing games on their phones and tablets. The Worldopoly white paper has a lot of gaming market information that I won’t go into in this blog post, but needless to say it’s a HUGE market.
Total revenue of game apps in 2016 was $33.6 billion with $23 billion of that iOS.
3rd Party ICO Ratings
These are the types of ICOs that can succeed both as a long term business and as a good investment.
How Do You Participate
Their website has videos on both the app and their team that you should watch. You should also read the white paper on their website.
To invest in the ICO at the time of this post, private-sale, (see timeline on their website) you have to invest a minimum of 25 ETH,
Starting April 23, 2018 the public pre-sale kicks in, and the minimum requirement will drop, but the pre-sale bonuses won’t be as large. Again, see the calendar is on their home page, or their whitepaper.
If you don’t want to invest 25 ETH, or don’t have 25 ETH, you can invest with others in a pool. Several pools have been created to do this. NOTE: Only use pools on a trusted pool site such as PrimaBlock.
Until next time,
